We understand that itās not always easy to figure out how to use a hammock properly across all four seasons. Thatās why weāve prepared a clear and visual guide showing all the essential components of a complete hammock setup.
When planning to spend a night in nature, itās important to think in a logical sequence:
- What will I sleep on?
- What will I sleep in?
- What will I sleep under?
The Modern Nomad Hammock set
1. What will I sleep on?
First, we need insulation underneath. If sleeping on the ground, a camping mat is a good choice. However, you can also place it inside the hammock. It will keep you warm, but it may not be the most comfortable solution.
For optimal comfort, hammocks are designed to use an underquilt as insulation. This attaches beneath the hammock and provides warmth. Depending on your preferences, choose between a summer or winter underquilt ā but remember, a winter underquilt can also be used in summer.
2. What will I sleep in?
Using hammock insulation allows you to repurpose your sleeping bag as a blanket during warmer seasons. This provides more freedom of movement at night while maintaining warmth. Simply unzip the sleeping bag fully, tuck your feet in, and drape it over you like a blanket. Comfortable, warm, and cozy. š
3. What will I sleep under?
To protect yourself from the elements ā wind, rain, or snow ā youāll need a rain tarp.
Our rain tarp is designed for simplicity: no knots are needed to set it up, thanks to our specially developed quick-attachment system. Itās also exceptionally lightweight and compact. In fact, it can fit into your pants pocket, yet it still unfolds to a generous 3×3 meters.
Bonus Tip: Mosquito Net
During bug season, a mosquito net is essential. However, even in cold and windy weather, it provides additional warmth and comfort by creating a cozy microclimate.
Enjoy your adventures, stay comfortable, and embrace the outdoors! šæ
